SoundScape Analysis Johana Bahamon

Steel Sculpture as a canopy.
Watching a movie at the Soundscape Park is a completely different experience from going to a regular movie theater. The park itself is able to accommodate people in an open air environment to into the idea of having an open air movie theater experience. The idea of having an open air movie theatre and the way the landscape is designed for this activity; encourages people to attend this event. It makes the experience and unforgettable one. Architecture itself is used in different way at this location, for example the way the plain white wall is used as the screen to where the movie is projected is a very resourceful idea. The landscape itself is design to accommodate public for the uses of a movie theater. For example the landscape where the movie takes place, has small hills where people bring blankets and lay down on the grass to watch the movie and enjoy the surroundings. It also has small benches that come from the ground up and follow the contour of the landscape. These benches are used for all the activities in the park, but they also serve as a sitting area for movie night. Watching a movie at the park is a very peaceful and friendly environment. The behavior of people during the projection of the movie is a very relaxing and serene one. People just lying down and spend quality time with friends and family in a pleasant-sounding environment. Also the landscape design helps define the public from the semi-private spaces, public spaces such as the streets and the sidewalks that surround the park. Semi-private space is the space within the park itself. This space is defined with the palm trees that surround the park, they act as division walls. In the Soundscape Park, there are also steel trees (canopies of trees); they are steel structures/sculptures. These sculptures help define the space of the park. They act as entrances to the park itself. These steel sculptures are located in different points of the park, where people usually will enter the park.

The Soundscape Park itself embraces a very positive remark towards the New World Symphony. The park gives life and a very well ecofriendly environment to the New World Symphony. It attracts people into the area, it makes them explore the park with its curvilinear sidewalks, and people also participate in the activities that go in it. For example when there is a concert inside the Symphony it’s also played live outside in the 80 feet tall white wall of the building facing the part; for people to enjoy it free of charge. To the city of Miami Beach the Soundscape Park has played a more positive outcome than a negative one. It has placed a positive outcome because; the park has brought a different look to the city of Miami Beach. It brings in a different atmosphere to the city. It becomes this well-known landmark that everyone walks by and explores. The park has become a space where people can walk around, and enjoy the different activities the park holds; such as movie nights, concerts and the live projection of the orchestra within the World of symphony building.

Your observations are too passive. Rather than saying that there are hills that people sit on, you should tell us who designed those hills (the landscape architect) and how their design affects behavior (eg. their orientation toward the projection wall invites spectators to sit on them, facing the wall). The paths, benches, trellises and buildings don't just happen, they are designed to promote responses by the public (in the example you give, people relax in front of the screen - do they behave the same way in other areas of the park?).

The description is vague and laden with value judgments. You need to be more specific in description and analysis. Drawings are required to show exactly where the elements of design are and how they relate to one another to create an environment. Choose a specific question and analyze the design
